Episode 275: End

Episode 275: End

Comic books matter. They inspire, in young and old, not just a sense of wonder and imagination, but of a world where each of us has it in our body and spirit to make a difference. To help those who need it most. To be better people. They foster communication, debate, criticism, and praise. They create communities. And when one feels lost in a sea of indifference and apathy, they bring a knowing smile from the person seated opposite you on the train, as they watch you read the latest issue of a favourite series. They encourage intellectual growth, and in young readers, instil not just an appreciation of art, but also of the written word. They create readers… and writers. They are our gateway drug into novels, that we may teach our young the beauty of literature. They are our mythology. They show us the best in humanity… and the worst. They are important. And they matter. Thank you all so much for listening to us discuss, debate, criticism, and praise, for six years. It has been our pleasure. iTunes | Stitcher | RSS feed If you enjoy the show, please make certain to stop by iTunes and leave us a review!...

Episode 274: The

Episode 274: The

When Vince first told me his plan for this week’s episode, I wondered how such a conversation would fare. “What we wish we’d covered.” Well, there are a number of things that come to mind, however it wasn’t like we were going to go in depth for each special issue, story-arc, or series. What I hadn’t banked on were the tangents… the deviations from the conversation which wound up being the most fun. We did not only talk about our disappointment as it pertains to issues we did not cover, but also how we feel we could have done things differently. Honest, passionate, and not afraid of admitting to some missteps. I’m quite proud of this episode. Enjoy. iTunes | Stitcher | RSS feed If you enjoy the show, please make certain to stop by iTunes and leave us a review!...

Episode 273: Of

This week, as well as for our remaining episodes, we’ve decided to hell with our routine. Vince has laid out some loose discussion points for us, so that we can simply sit back and shoot the breeze about our experiences with comics. On this episode, we discuss our own origin stories, as well as our rebirths. When did we start reading comics, and because we both took a break, what drew us back in? These are things we’ve briefly touched on in the past, however really took the time to dive into our pasts for this episode. Let us know about your own first experiences with comics. We’d love to hear from you. Enjoy. iTunes | Stitcher | RSS feed If you enjoy the show, please make certain to stop by iTunes and leave us a review!...

Episode 272: The Beginning

Episode 272: The Beginning

My work day ends at 5PM. Every Tuesday, sickness and such notwithstanding, I call Vince via Skype as soon as I’ve got my recording application all setup. We shoot the breeze for a few moments, catch up on some news, and do a sound check to normalize our volumes. “All right. Ready?” I’ll ask. “Ready when you are.” I’ll press a button, and our theme will start. I don’t add it during editing. I feel it gets us in the right frame of mind to hear it every week before we jump into our episode. Every time I watch an old Batman Beyond episode, I think of our podcast. I like that. This week, I thought it best to start the podcast recording as soon as I got a “Hello” from Vince as he answered the call. We could have talked for hours pre-show, however I wanted folks to hear what I assumed would be the weight of our words… our decisions. We hope you enjoy this episode. Episode 271: The Vision

Episode 271: The Vision

This week, in light of the recent Warriors announcement which will star Viv, Vince decided we should check out the new Vision series. Both of us had dismissed it when it had first released, however reading through the first six issues proved that was a grave mistake. Also discussed this week, some Spider-Man… some bad… some meh. Episode 270: Spectrum Wars

Episode 270: Spectrum Wars

This week, in light of Anton Yelchin’s recent passing, I decided it would be nice to put our differences with DC on hold, to cover a fantastic Star Trek/Green Lantern cross-over. Differences may not be the right term, as it implies DC’s got a beef with us as well; and let’s be honest, they’ve no friggin’ idea who we are. But I digress. The Spectrum Wars was a great mini-series that managed to blend these universes in a way that was completely believable… as well as entertaining. Also this week, some Spider-Man, Deadpool and of course, Steve Rogers. Enjoy. Episode 269: Back to the Future

Episode 269: Back to the Future

This week, Vince and I cover another franchise brought to comics: Back to the Future. We’re both huge fans of the movies, as well as the Telltale Games title. You would think we’d be instantly enamoured with these comics, however in each case, something simply felt off, or lacking. In our What We’re Reading segment we covered a lot of good stuff, including Thor, Ms Marvel, GWENPOOL, and more. Enjoy. Episode 268: The Oath

Episode 268: The Oath

This week, Vince took another of my suggestions and we tackled what wound up being a spectacular Doctor Strange mini-series: The Oath. The series proves that in the right hands, Doctor Strange can entertain. Also covered this week, Invincible, Han Solo, 4 Seconds, Spectrum and more. Fun episode. Enjoy. Episode 267: Black Panther

Episode 267: Black Panther

I’ve been bugging Vince for weeks to find a good Black Panther story to cover on the podcast. Sadly, what he suggested was the first story-arc of the 1999 Black Panther series, which, as you’ll discover, was full of problems, not the least of which being, Black Panther wasn’t even the central character. We also covered some God of War, TMNT, Grizzlyshark, Sherlock, and more. Enjoy. Editor’s Note: Despite what Vince would have you believe at the start of the episode, it is in fact episode 267, not 167. Discussion Black Panther (1999) #1-5 What We’re Reading Vince: Darth Vader, Gods of War Roger: TMNT, Grizzlyshark, Sherlock New Releases Marvel: Amazing Spider-Man #14 Black Widow #4 Civil War II #2 Civil War II: X-Men #1 Deadpool #14 Nova #8 Star Wars #20 Star Wars: Han Solo #1 Vote Loki #1 Image: Descender #12 I Hate Fairyland #6 Invincible #129 Lazarus #22 Low #14 Dark Horse: Weird Detective #1 Dynamite: The Dresden Files: Wild Card #3 IDW: Back to the Future: Citizen Brown #2 Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows of the Vampire #2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #59 Transformers #54 Transformers: Till All Are One #1 Valiant: A&A: The Adventures of Archer and Armstrong #4 Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #8 iTunes | Stitcher | RSS feed If you enjoy the show, please make certain to stop by iTunes and leave us a review!...

Episode 266: Angel of Death

Episode 266: Angel of Death

This week, Vince and I tackle some early X-Factor issues; those revolving around Apocalypse’s introduction, as well as Angel’s traumatic transformation to his Fourth Horseman. X-Men: Apocalypse did a terrible job with this profound event, and if you get a chance, we suggest you check out Louise Simonson’s story-arc in those X-Factor issues. We also discuss Civil War II, Transformers, X-tinction Agenda, Vader and more. Note: At one point when discussing X-tinction Agenda, I mention Jean being transformed into her teenage body, when in fact it was Storm.
