Episode 29: Wah Wahwah Wah

Episode 29: Wah Wahwah Wah

This week’s recordings were both supremely disappointing and hilarious. Yes, recordings… plural. Due to technical difficulties during our regular Wednesday night recording, which were entirely my fault, this is what our tracks looked like. The upper track is mine. The lower track… yes, that flat line, is Vince’s. Unfortunately, due to some Skype shenanigans, Vince’s portion of the conversation was not recorded. We decided to re-record on Thursday, which in hindsight was not that bad, seeing as DC decided to drop another bomb on us after we’d recorded on Wednesday. PS. I hope you enjoy our Peanuts inspired outtakes… the editing time required for those was quite lengthy… though in my opinion well worth it. Episode 028: You Go Girl

Episode 028: You Go Girl

This week, we tackled the new FF series, with everything that’s happened from issue 1 to the brand new 4. We’ve been enjoying it quite a bit, and the new interactions between Spider-Man and the remaining Fantastic Four members are proving to be a perfect blend of humor and action. We also discussed the Ultimate Death of Spider-Man as well as the Ultimate Avengers tie-in; both fun reads, though the length of this event is starting to cause it to lose steam… not to mention the knowledge of a replacement Spider-Man already planned. We also ranted about Alpha Flight, each for our own reasons. Vince hates that a brand new series requires a point one issue (and I agree). I just didn’t enjoy the issue at all. I also ranted about the way it has been handled in the past and what appears to be on the horizon for it now. For the record, when I said there isn’t a Canadian writer on it, I meant the current incarnation, not the original series… though truth be told, I didn’t know John Byrne had lived in Canada for a stint. A point of correction for Vince, Byrne was born in England and moved to Canada when he was 8. Does that make him any less Canadian? Naw…. I just like pointing out when Vince doesn’t have all of his facts right. Episode 027: Janet Lee Interview

Episode 027: Janet Lee Interview

We’re very happy to have a fantastic interview with the Eisner-nominated artist behind ‘Return of the Dapper Men’ from Archaia; Janet Lee. Janet is currently working on ‘Jane Austen’s Emma’ by Marvel. Janet’s unique style has won her critical acclaim, and it was fantastic talking to her about the process she goes through to create each page. Prior to working on Dapper Men, Janet’s artwork sold in galleries (she also sells pieces online). I loved hearing her talk about the leap from being a gallery artist to a comic book artist. Janet shares some behind the scenes working on ‘Return of the Dapper Men’, as well as other interesting projects. I love talking to artists who are passionate about what they do, but what’s more, have a free spirit when it comes to experimenting and simply having fun. Janet was a joy to interview. Episode 025: Off-Roading

I debated whether I should call this episode “Off-Roading”, as a reference to Vince’s comment that he’d turn that shotgun on me if I got off track… which I so clearly did a couple times, or “Multiplitude”, because apparently making up words is a podcasters prerogative. Speaking of podcasters, this episode also features a few friendly jabs at those who like to discuss what they are drinking at length during their podcasts. Episode 24: Spectacularly Ultimate

Despite Marvel’s Ultimate’s Liveblog, neither Vince nor myself found much to really interest them. Perhaps it’s because the Ultimates universe has lost a lot of its appeal. Who knows. This issue, we also tackle Marvel’s MMO and the news that Bendis will be the lead writer for that game. As for comics, we chat about Age of X.
