Episode 270: Spectrum Wars

Episode 270: Spectrum Wars

This week, in light of Anton Yelchin’s recent passing, I decided it would be nice to put our differences with DC on hold, to cover a fantastic Star Trek/Green Lantern cross-over. Differences may not be the right term, as it implies DC’s got a beef with us as well; and let’s be honest, they’ve no friggin’ idea who we are. But I digress. The Spectrum Wars was a great mini-series that managed to blend these universes in a way that was completely believable… as well as entertaining. Also this week, some Spider-Man, Deadpool and of course, Steve Rogers. Enjoy. Episode 265: The Shepherd

Episode 265: The Shepherd

This week, Vince and I tackle an indie series: The Shepherd. Its creator, Andrea Lorenzo Molinari, reached out to us and asked if we’d be interested in reading his work. As it turned out, we were very interested. We also discussed the $#^& storm that was Captain America, as well as X-Men: Apocalypse – also full of $#^&. Enjoy. Update: Andrea reached out with the details we asked for regarding contact information and where folks can pick up The Shepherd. Here is where you can purchase The Shepherd: Apokatastasis (a few examples): Local Comic Book Shop: Diamond Previews (the Item Code is NOV151223; Nov. 2015, page 286) Amazon (paperback collected edition; collects Issues 1-5): Comixology (digital; pdf of Issues 1-5 and collected edition): DriveThruComics (digital; pdf of Issues 1-5 and collected edition): Google Play (digital; pdf of Issues 1-5 and collected edition): For anyone who might be “on the fence,” a FREE digital copy of Issue 1 (of five) is available on The Shepherd Facebook page. Episode 258: Superman’s Betrayal

In perhaps Vince’s best slip, he wraps up our thoughts on this widely respected event. We went in with open minds, hoping to love a Superman story, and he betrayed us yet again. Luckily, we also had some of The Fix, Black Panther, Grizzlyshark, Old Man Logan and more to discuss in our What We’re Reading segment. Enjoy. Discussion Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? Episode 253: Should we care that Spidey’s black?

Episode 253: Should we care that Spidey’s black?

This week, Vince decided we should talk about a couple new issues which caused some stir on the internets. Black Widow’s reboot was something that I had been dreading, simply because I’d been so enamoured with the last series. Sadly, while this first issue was impressive in some regards, I simply found it didn’t have enough story to warrant the cover price… great art or not. And then there was Spider-Man #2, which attempted to stir up crap, by having the writer use the main character’s voice to say that race doesn’t matter. A nice sentiment, certainly; however the fact is, it does. We are fighting to be more inclusive with our super-heroes, which means race does matter. Gender matters. Sexual orientation matters. Religion matters. Disabilities and mental health matters. We want more variety in our comics, more diversity, and more representation. So don’t tell us it doesn’t matter if Spidey’s black or not. Simply understand that it does. Lots more this week as well, with Wayward, X-Men, Transformers, Batman, Bitch Planet and more. Enjoy. Episode 102: Drowning Daken FTW

Episode 102: Drowning Daken FTW

This week’s episode started with an impromptu discussion of the latest couple super-hero movies which have just come out on video: Spider-Man and Batman. Neither of which I really cared for. Well, maybe that’s a little strong. I just have a lot of bad feels about both. There are things which really irked me a lot, and normally, I go into comic book adaptation movies with very, very low expectations. It was a fun conversation which we hadn’t planned. I love tossing those wrenches into Vince’s carefully planned episodes. /insert evil grin here Afterward, we dove headfirst into the latest Uncanny X-Force issues to discuss the amazing work Remender has done. Episode 092: Deadpool Can Bite Me

This week, Sarah and I tackle a couple excellent issues, and a not-so-great mini-series, which makes for some interesting conversations. We both agreed that Alpha’s a punk, but still fun to read. The new Dragon Age was absolutely awesome, and Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe was garbage. There, now you don’t even need to listen to the podcast. Though you should anyway. Enjoy. Episode 086: Before Watchmen

This week, despite repeated technical, physical and sensory problems, Vince and I managed to get an episode recorded discussing the new Before Watchmen titles. You’ll have to check out the outtakes to see what I mean. As for Before Watchmen, universally we can agree that they were sorely lacking; something which disappointed Vince a lot more than I, who went in with very low expectations.
